Tradition and custom are some of the first words that come to mind when entering the Kobe Steakhouse of Japan. The spacious dining area is full of authentic Japanese design from exotic flowers and fountains to the beautiful paintings and wall hangings placed perfectly throughout the restaurant. Your nose is filled with the savory aromas of seasoned meats and spiced vegetables. As you are led to your seats you might be surprised not to find the traditional restaurant tables, but instead sheet of very hot metal surrounded by nine chairs. You are seated with the next strangers to walk in the door that will fit at your table. Before you have time to introduce yourself to the people you will be dining with this evening, the waitress arrives with towels for you to wash your hands with. You then have to make the decision of what to order. The order, various combinations of steak, chicken, vegetables, shrimp and other seafood comes with clear soup, house salad, shrimp appetizers, Hibachi vegetables, and steamed or fried rice. You will not be hungry after this meal. Shortly after you order is taken your chef arrives with your soup and salad, and he prepares the metal grill. He then proceeds to cook the entire meal right before your eyes, but he doesn’t just cook your meats and vegetables. He creates flaming statues, shoots peas into your mouth, throws knives and ingredients through the air, and tosses eggs on his spatula the way Tiger Woods bounces a golf ball on his club. The chef serves you with food and jokes as you eat the fabulous food he sets in front of you. The distinct blend of spicy and tangy flavors dance in your mouth as you try to make sure not a scrud* is left uneaten. The energy in this steakhouse is more fun and friendly than any other I have ever been to. “ It’s dinner with entertainment,” says Ron Miller at my table, “and the kids really love it.” All in all it’s a fun, and delicious dining experience at a reasonable price for the entire family.
